The Montessori Method

Maria Montessori

Dr Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was an Italian physician and educator best known for the philosophy of education that bears her name. The Montessori Method first came to the UK in 1919 when Maria provided an international training course.

The Montessori Method is a method of education for young children that stresses the development of a child’s own initiative and natural abilities, especially through practical play. The method allows children to develop at their own pace in an environment that is rich in motives.

Louise Sanderson chose to offer this style of teaching as she herself attended a Montessori Nursery as a child with teachers who were originally trained by Maria. We use the Montessori method of teaching as a foundation block and implement it into modern day learning.
